So I've decided it's time to blog. Not sure why the whim has struck, but hey, everyone else is publishing their opinions, why not me, you know?
Of course, it never hurts that I'm always looking for something new to do during the day, and this promises to provide hours of entertainment - at least for me.
This morning, just before the alarm went off, I was dreaming of Peirce Brosnan - rather strange, convoluted dream and I'm still not sure why he appeared in it as a major character - and then what do you see on cnn.com's entertainment pages? He's stepping down as James Bond. So very sad (though with the caterpillar that's now growing over his lip he's very un-bondish and showing a bit more age than maybe he needs to...though I think he's much like Sean Connery in that he just gets better with age). So, ok, that's sad - he's by far the best Bond since Sean Connery, but who are they considering for replacements? Hugh Grant???? That'd be like the Bond equivalent of "Zorro: The Gay Blade" - funny, but just not Zorro. Others allegedly in consideration...Heath Ledger (is it just me or is the scene of him dancing on the bleachers in 10 Things I Hate About You his defining moment as an actor?), Colin Firth (loved him as Darcy in A&E's Pride and Prejudice...and he's been trying to remake that role ever since. Unless Bond becomes a period drama I just don't see it!), Hugh Jackman...possible I guess, he definitely has a range of acting skills and, well, yeah, he looks great in a tux. Definitely the best so far. Jude Law - another possible I guess if we're looking for the best of a bad selection. Ewan McGregor. Um. Not if I got to pick. And then there's Gerard Butler. I had to look him up, but he was the guy in the 2nd Tomb Raider movie. Wow. That I could see. Unbelievably good looking with just the right mix of bad boy and impish harmlessness. So far he gets my main vote. I can't reliably comment on Clive Owen (though I want to see King Arthur, so maybe once I do that I'll have a better idea), Ioan Gruffudd (another in the King Arthur movie, though he's also accepted the part of Mr. Fantastic in the Fantastic Four so...he looks a little young, but again, haven't seen him in action yet), and to round out the list, Eric Bana. Now, I enjoyed him in Troy (as Hector) but I guess I'd want to see him in something modern day before I comment.
On another odd, unrelated thought - they were talking on the radio this morning about how apparantly the general populace of the US has decided that EVERYTHING they see on TV is real...to the point that those brain children sitting on juries are demanding CSI-type evidence before they'll decide someone is guilty. Maybe we've just hit the point where non-"reality" TV needs to have a big warning that shows for 2 - 3 minutes before and after the show that says "All persons and events depicted are fictitious. This show may use procedure and technology that does not yet exist and thus should not be a baseline for what you consider real." Next thing you know, they're going to start demanding the the Army open StarGate travel up to the general populace rather than hoarding it for themselves.
Probably enough rambling for now.

The Stargate at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, is actually under Air Force control, not Army. The Stargate in Russia is not under U.S. control at all.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree that they should open up Stargate tourism, ASAP!
