It's a wild romp, the Elephant's Ball,
one that you don't want to miss.
Big pachyderms behind small feathered masks
dancing and laughing with bliss.
The elephants hop and the elephants jump
in rhythms with African sound.
And the pounding and stomping that happens this night
is sure to most roundly astound.
All those vibrations rattle the floor
so hard your nerve endings feel dead
and the pounding and jumping as they carry on
feels like it's all in your head.
And soon without thought your brain pounds along
in time with the elephant dance
and you think that your skull might just explode
if given one eighth of a chance.
But the wonderful sight of the elephant ball
almost renders the pain quite worthwhile
so you watch and endure as best as you can
with a pained, but genuine, smile.
