This has become one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" TV shows. I don't get to see it all because they're trying to compete at the tail end with CSI. And there's not much that will keep me from getting my weekly dose of Grissom. (Ah, Grissom, who says science isn't sexy?) And then, I also miss the results shows on Fridays (cause Friday is a jam packed DVR night, there was just no room!) So I hadn't actually managed to see Master P "dance" before last night.
Oh. My. Gosh. Master P is the William Hung of this show. Except that William Hung actually tried, he just sucked naturally. Master P isn't even trying. He's just using it as a platform for promoting his new album. It's just disgusting. It'd be one thing if he was even showing a modicum of effort - but he even admitted that he's practiced a total of 20 hours so far in the duration of the show. Everyone else is doing at least twice that each week. You remember those little dancing flower radios? THEY were better dancers than P is. As the judges so aptly put it, "It's time for you to go." Hopefully P will be off tonight. But given the absurdity of the people in this country, someone is undoubtedly going to keep voting for him - not because of his "skill" but simply because he is who he is. And I felt so bad for the professional dancer who is assigned to him - the chick in the back room asked her last night how she felt about his obvious lack of practice and interest. The poor girl is trying desperately to be positive and not say something that'll tick him off and just look like bad sportsmanship - and she did a good job - but you can tell she's really horked about it as well.
So last night I did what I have never even been tempted to do before (well, honestly, this is the first reality show I've ever watched with anything more than five seconds while flipping channels) - I voted. (So very sad. I've become one of those people who votes in reality tv shows...please tell me someone else out there is willing to admit that they've voted!)
This is just a cool show though - I've loved ballroom dancing for a long time. Daddy used to watch the professional dancesport competitions (that and formula 1 races were the closest things to sports that would ever be on our TV growing up) and I would sit and watch with him. Mom would joke that he only liked the show because of the skimpy outfits the girls wear, but it still is just cool to watch. Then there were some really good ballroom movies - Strictly Ballroom is one of my favorites, followed by Dance With Me and even Mad About Mambo is worth a watch when it's on. I missed the first season though because I was skeptical. Sometimes being a cynic doesn't pay off. But I'm hooked now.
Right now I'm torn between liking Drew & Cheryl best and Stacy & Tony. I just am astounded by even thinking that a pro-wrestler would be at the top of my list - but she's really, really good. Overall though, I think Drew pulls ahead by a hair just because he's always 100% into the dance and the performance of it all.
Beneath that, I would go, in order, Tia & Max, then Lisa & Louis, then Jerry & Anna, then George & Edyta. And if Master P manages to stay on the show this week I'll just cry. But he's clearly my last choice.
Anyway, online voting is still available - so if you're so inclined, go vote for anyone other than Master P - let's work together and stop the madness! (You do have to register).
Hah! :) I voted, too! Even though I've never voted for anything in my entire life ... hehe
ReplyDeleteI am crossing my fingers that Master P gets booted out tonight. I think I'll go crazy if he doesn't. :)
There's a new movie coming out with Antonio Banderas--I think it's called "Take the Lead"--that looks like fun. Ballroom dancing with the city hoodlums who are stuck in high school detention. Okay, serious guilty pleasure here.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I also admit that I enjoyed that Julia Stiles movie (Save the Last Dance? I think?). Anyway, I love dancing movies.
