I Heart Valentine's Day

You know what? I love Valentine's Day. I know that many of you are rolling your eyes and beginning to mutter about Hallmark Holidays and how if you love someone you should show them that all the time not just on a special day and on and on and on. But you know what? I'm going to be listening for you on Mother's and Father's Day too then. And Grandparent's Day. Cause your arguments all still apply. And yet...churches even make a big deal out of Mother's and Father's day. And they're just as "fake" as Valentine's day - and even more so, they're exclusive. They only celebrate people who are genetically blessed enough to be able to have children. Valentine's Day celebrates everyone. Valentine's Day gives you an opportunity to make someone feel special. Even without spending money. You can make them a card. You can just simply call them and tell them how special they are to you and why. Or email them. Or mention it in passing. And sure, absolutely, we ought to do this on a regular basis. But we don't. And even if we do - what's the harm in having a day where you are sure to do it instead of the hit or miss of busy daily life?

Oh, I know, FTD and Hallmark will try to convince you that it's only for someone who you romantically love, but this just isn't the case. At least, if you choose to not let it be the case. Becuase on Valentine's Day, you can tell anyone in your life - even just the cashier at the supermarket - that you appreciate them. And maybe if you let yourself focus on trying to show other people how much you appreciate them one day a year, that focus will spill over into other days during the year. Cause it's never a bad thing to feel appreciated and loved.

So to all of you - Thank you for dropping by my blog. Thank you to those of you who comment. Thank you to those of you who link. Each one of those things makes me feel special. And I appreciate each of you. If I could hand out candy hearts through the Internet, I would.

Have a Happy Valentine's Day!
