I think I know a little of what the Israelites faced as they wandered, presumably aimlessly, in the wilderness for 40 years. Because our offices moved, but about ten of us got left behind. And this building has become a wasteland.
At first there were people everywhere as the moving company came in and out, grabbing anything not either nailed down (and even that in some cases) or vigorously defended by waving arms, screeching, and pointing to be "DON'T MOVE THIS" signs. But that has tapered off and now it's just the ten of us, sitting in our offices in an otherwise empty office building.
Have you ever seen a fully finished (i.e. carpet etc) office building with no one in all the offices? It's a very sad, dismal thing.
And now we are moving - but not into the promised land. We are simply being uprooted from the wilderness we've come to know and love to a lower floor - a wilderness frought with new and exciting adventures along the lines of "Where the heck is the kitchen on this floor?" and "Did they not leave a soda machine? Seriously?" And queries about our transport over to the new digs where the rest of the team lives are met with shrugs and grunts and mumbles about finishing building out the server room (Um - how do you move people into a new building when the server room isn't ready?) And essentially there is no answer beyond that to be given. And so we wander and wait.

Yikes on the office move, but hope it goes smoothly!
ReplyDeleteThis gives new meaning to the Left Behind series. Um, are you sure they are coming back for you? Why only 10 left behind? I thought the number was supposed to be much larger than that. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGwynne, I had those same thoughts. But I have been to and seen my new office (with my name outside the door and everything) so I'm hopeful that there is actually an eventual move in sight.
ReplyDeleteMichelle - thanks! Hope your conference is going well! :)
LOL Gwynne!
ReplyDeleteAnd so we wander and wait. - Reminds me of an ad we used to have on TV. All you'd have to do is tack onto the end 'and a little girl cries'!
Rach, I was trying to downplay that aspect of things. *sniff* ;) What, out of curiosity, was the ad for?
