I've really got to stop getting the TravelZoo newsletter. They have specials to Ireland in February. Our first trip was in February and the weather was, surprisingly, quite nice. And things are a little cheaper and a little less crowded because it's "off season". So while, sure, you might not have clear blue skies and happy sunshine in your photos, you're in Ireland. What else matters, after all?
They also have a really good airfare to New Zealand and if I could at all figure out how to swing time off to go, we would be booked for that (~$700 RT!) I could meet Rach and see all the cool Lord of the Rings stuff...and be in New Zealand! (How cool would that be?)
And yet, I have neither worlds enough nor time. Or however that quote goes (which, btw, if anyone knows the original quote and where it's from, I would love to have that information - leave a comment?) So I just sit here and drool.
Thankfully, February is almost upon us! With February comes my break between semesters - four blissful weeks without school. No homework. Time just to do stuff that I want to do! So I've started making a list (haven't checked it twice at this point, but I'll get there) of all the things that I hope to accomplish in February. Most of it is adopty-type stuff, but there's some other good stuff on there, that hopefully as they get checked off I'll be able to share with y'all.
So here's the question of the day: When/if you sit and dream about vacations - where do you go? Do you go back somewhere you've been before, or is it always someplace new?

I am SOOOO ready to go back to visit New Mexico. We're thinking last week of August and use the Labor Day weekend as a free vacation day. Fly in to Albuquerque, get a car. If Mike's mom is still in Deming, we'll go see her for a day or two (at most), then see ABQ, then Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Then on to Taos, and into Colorado...want to follow the route that goes to Mountain Meadows camp (maybe stay a night there at the regular lodge??), then see Colorado Springs, and fly out of Denver.
ReplyDeleteHow much time do you think I need for all that...can it be done in 10 days?
Regarding the quote you ask about, here's a link:
ReplyDeleteBarbleby's that says its from a poem called "To His Coy Mistriss" by Andrew Marvell.
I daydream about places I've been, but I like to imagine (and actually visit) places I've never been. I wish I could go to NZ also! Ireland too, but I've never been to NZ. Maybe 2007 will be the year. I really hope so. $700 is cheap for NZ!! Do they have the Winnebago/airfare dealeo going on? That always intrigues me.
ReplyDeleteIt would be so awesome if you guys came over!!! I dream about coming back to the States and visiting y'all :). Equally as awesome!
ReplyDeleteI want to go to NZ and Fiji, as well. Ireland, too, but NZ and Fiji first.
ReplyDelete(And make sure my work cellphone doesn't work there.)
Lynellen, I think it could be done in 10 days easily. And gosh it sounds fun - I hadn't thought of doing the camp route. :) I've googled that quote a million times and come up with nothing, clearly I'm not as good a googler as you are.
ReplyDeleteGwynne, the NZ thing I saw was just airfare - but honestly, that's the most expensive part, I would imagine you could put the winnie part together on your own pretty cheaply once you've knocked out the airfare. I'm pretty sure it's travelzoo.com if you want to poke around to see the deal details.
Rach - I promise to let you know when we get out that way - we will do it at some point cause both Tim and I really want to.
Janie, I have to say Fiji doesn't hold much attraction but right now I think that's because honestly I don't know anything about it (mental picture: tiki huts, that's it.) I'm pretty sure work cellphones don't work overseas. Or on weekends. You can let them know I said so ;)
Ooooohh....Ireland...must plan another research trip. :)
ReplyDeleteI usually dream about places I've been. It's a little scary to think about new places, even though I want to try them.
You don't want to go to Fiji right now anyway to be honest. They've just had a coup and the military leader has taken over and made himself PM. We've put sanctions against them. The new "pm" has said that there may not be elections for 5 years - hows that for democracy?
