I have a lot of grocery shopping in my near future, it seems. I'm not sure how this has snuck up on me, but it has. And as such, I have cooking for the Sunday school Seder we're having on Saturday night as well as the family Easter supper (well, lunchish time, probably realistically around 2) to do. I am glad that I remembered today as opposed to, say, Saturday.
For the Seder I'm just bringing the lamb and a chicken (for those who don't care for lamb.) So that shouldn't be a problem.
For the family, I'm pulling out an oldie but goody - one of my favorite menus from Gourmet Magazine - a mostly Russian Orthodox Easter (with some other bits thrown in.) The menu will consist of:
Pierogies
Russian Easter Bread
Paskha Cheese (yum!)
Herb-stuffed leg of lamb
Kielbasa
Beet horseradish sauce (for the meats)
Asparagus with lemon and butter
Sweet and Sour Sauerkraut
I think I'll do simple strawberry shortcakes or a berry trifle for dessert (if anyone has any room left over, which, after looking at the menu, may be a stretch.) The best thing about this menu is after I collect all the stuff, I can put just about all of it together tomorrow and/or Saturday and then just cook or reheat it on Sunday after church. I may even do the lamb ahead and just reheat it or serve it at room temp. We'll see.

Can I please please please come? IT sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! We're having ham, mashed potatoes, that sort of thing. Mmmm....and Easter candy, of course.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Rach, come on over! :) Our lamb will, in all liklihood, be from your neck of the woods. I'll think of you while I roast it.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, the Easter candy is a must. We have some peeps and cadbury eggs around here somewhere (if Tim hasn't scarfed them all). I will probably buy myself a bunny. A HOLLOW bunny. (I really don't like the solid ones.) Will it be just y'all or are your folks coming down?
Mmmm...lamb...
