Things I Should Be Doing (But have no real intention of doing anytime today if I'm brutally honest about the whole thing.)

  • Calling back the girl from my former Sunday school class who left a seemingly friendly, breezy phone message on Thursday but who I know was one of the major players in it being my former Sunday school class even though she doesn't know I know and so I have very little interest in putting on my phony "so happy to talk to you" voice and calling her back.
  • Working on chapter 1 of my dissertation proposal now that my idea paper is approved (Oh hey - did I mention that? I got my idea paper approved. w00t!)
  • Cleaning the main floor bathroom.
  • Cleaning the basement bathroom.
  • Folding laundry.
  • Ironing.
  • Sending little encouraging emails to the students in my class who haven't turned in their finals even though it was due Sunday and today is the last day of the term and thus the last day I can accept work.
  • Vacuuming.
  • Working on transcription for a writing project on which I am woefully behind.
  • Finding the recipe for the dish I want to make for dinner on Sunday when everyone is over at our house for Mother's Day so that I can go to the grocery store and get the ingredients I need.

Things I May Do Instead:
  • Blog about what I should be doing.
  • Play the oh-so-addictive free Mahjong game I got as part of my Borders rewards last time I bought a book.
  • Read one of the three fun books I've got going right now.
  • Nap.
  • Try to work up the energy to do something on my "should do list" and feel bad about not succeeding.
  • Play with my NaNo project that's been languishing since November even though I have some really good ideas that I keep meaning to at least outline.
  • Sit in the new found silence and just exhale a mental "ahhh" now that little one is sleeping and not screaming.
  • Daydream.
  • Contemplate calling a few different people because it might be kind of nice to chat with someone for a bit but then discard the idea after realizing that I like the idea of chatting on the phone more than the actual experience of same.

  1. Hey! It's you!! Cute picture. And you do look just like your avatar. I have to take exception though to your claims of having bad hair. I like the haircut.

  2. Um, wrong post. 8-}

But what I really wanted to say on this post was that I especially like item #1 on your list of things you may actually do. It would be funny to see such a side by side of everyone's To Do lists because I'll bet they all look something similar to this and yet, day after day, we deceive ourselves into thinking that we might actually do those things on the first list. For me, the best way to trick myself into doing the real To Do list is to not put them on the list in the first place. ;-)

  3. Oh, this haircut I like - and now that I have a flat iron I think I can even style it. Of course, today I just did the round brush thing (and managed not to poke my eye out!) and it looked nice that way, too. Maybe I'll do another picture. Anyway, thanks!

I did end up doing a few things on my to do list, so that's good. But I laughed as I typed #1, cause I was really unmotivated today.
