The Hypocrisy of Politics

I'm not sure why I'm surprised, and yet? I am. I don't get the fuss over Sarah Palin's daughter. I see here and there that people are making comments that having a daughter get pregnant outside of marriage makes Governor Palin unfit to lead. But if she were a man, no one would even be hinting at such a thing. Seriously.

Reagan's daughter posed nude while he was in office. No one questioned his leadership.
W's daughters were drinking underage while he was in office. No one questioned his leadership (because of that.)
Heck, even James Madison had a son who was a reprobate who had to keep getting bailed out of his gambling debts. And I don't think we would question his fitness to lead.

If we are such an enlightened country who would be proud to have a woman hold the second highest office, then how can we on the other hand insinuate that she'd be better off at home taking care of her children - as if one can't do both. And just because her daughter made bad choices doesn't mean that she and her husband did anything wrong.

Pfft. She's still got my vote and I'm still seriously stoked that she's on the ticket.

  1. Only because I know you actually care about such things: It's "hypocrisy". I know, it looks wrong. But it ain't. :-)

  3. Sad - simply sad.
We show we are human - and have issues just like everyone else. Then we show how we deal with things - the way God wants us to.
And somehow - they still do not seem to get it.

And you could not be more right on the gender issue!
You also forgot to include Chenys daughter on your list - but people let that go as well.
If it were her husband running - nothing would be said......
Plain and simple - some "people" are just idiots.......

  4. Yeah, thought of Cheney's daughter after I hit post. And my mom says that she can think of something with just about every Pres. or VP's kid since she's been paying attention - so a lot farther back. :)

  5. I agree! And as further testimony on the gender difference, I had no idea that McCain has 7 kids! Palin is only been in the spotlight a few days and I already know all of her kids by name. It's driving me up the wall hearing all the talk about her failure to teach abstinence but no mention (at least from the Pro-choice crowd) about teaching the value of life!
