My mom found a hand-me-down first LeapPad and, thinking that we might enjoy it, brought it over. Until recently it has been nothing more than a fun box to pound on, but lately, Joshua has been showing considerably more interest, turning it on (while banging it - I think it's probably an accident) and then continuing to bang on it, smiling as it chimes and tells him to press the green go button to get started.
While it was sitting unused, I had stored away the various things that you snap in, not wanting them to get mangled and chewed on. But with this new interest, I took out the alphabet page and slid it in. This page has the letters and a picture of something that starts with that letter. So, when it's on and you've pressed not only the green Go button but also the lightbulb to get started (why 2? I have no idea. But most of the time he does actually manage to hit both of them in his random banging) when you press a letter it says the letter and then the name of the animal or object that starts with that letter. Or, if you just hit the animal or object, it says that word. I figure having that repeated to him early on can only be good, though I'm honestly not expecting him to do more than just have fun hitting it.
This morning brought on a particularly frenzied bout of banging and all I could hear over and over while I was fixing my coffee was, "H is for Dog."

Hmmm...too much banging maybe? Or is this some new phonetic way of learning? I can't even think of a particular breed of dog that starts with the letter "H." Very funny. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, there are the hounds, of course. But yeah, it's the frenetic banging. It starts to say "H is for Horse" but he hits the dog picture (which makes it say "Dog") as fast as he can...and you get, "H is for Dog." It's very amusing.
