A Punny Day

I spent the bulk of today cranking out King Cakes. (Using this recipe that was first suggested by Christina.) Thankfully I seem to have figured out the yeast thing, so there were no more repetitions of this tragedy - they look light and delicious. (The key, apparently, to getting yeast to activate and dough to rise in my house is twofold: 1) let the microwave run for 2 minutes before setting your yeast in there to proof for 10 minutes, that makes it nice and toasty and draft-free, and 2) let the dough rise in the oven, periodically turning on the heat to warm it back up.)

And while I'm quite excited about digging into the cakes (they're not all for us - our friends offered to pay for materials if I'd make a couple for them, so I did) - I have had horrible puns running through my head for most of the day.

It started off with a reminder of the hymn, I Need Thee Every Hour (though of course, I thought of it as it was presented by an uncle at some point as "I Knead Thee Every Hour"). Then I was trying to figure out how to work the phrase, "That got a rise out of me" into conversation. This was, of course, followed by the integration of the idea of being on a roll...and so on and so forth.

You know it's bad when you're groaning at yourself.

On the other hand...there's this to look forward to:

  5. Y'all - the cakes were so good.... that one went to wifes school (she always buys one from N.O. and has it shipped each year - but this year Beth made them for us)...and the teachers literally sprinted for it. It was gone before wife could make it to the break room after she announced it.

The next couple were so good... i had 3-4 peices worth at thier house, another peice once home, and i am eating another peice right now!
    Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!!!!!
and HAPPY MARDI GRAS - Y'ALL!
