A Little Bit O This And That

Tim was off today, which was delightful. His company tends to alternate Columbus Day and Veteran's Day for a holiday (I'd love for him to get both, but he does get a floating holiday so effectively he does, just more flexibly) and this year was a Columbus Day year. Given that he spent most of September working long hours and weekends on a proposal, he also took Friday off. So it's been a veritable plethora of Tim. And it was good. So this little bit of randomness is brought to you by the letter P and the number 9.

  • 9 is currently the doodle's favorite number. He counts along with you - so "One" is echoed happily, then most often "Two" and then "Nine!" The more you try to suggest that really it should be something like three or ten or whatever, the more emphatically he insists it should be 9.
  • P is currently the favorite letter around here. It is similar to 9, in that as you point out letters (he has little foam letters for the tub that he adores, but right now they're all P) he insists that they are really a P.
  • I should know something about whether or not I can do my doctoral study by Friday. Of course, one of the people who approved it is now no longer with our school so..I have to see if I can get someone who's new who I've never spoken to at all to send a letter saying it's ok. I really thought that the dissertation bit would be the hard part, not the logistical bits. But after this, writing up the report should be cake.
  • I'm trying to decide if I will NaNo this year or not. I could probably knock it out during nap time with relative ease. Though I'd be tempted to work on something that's already in progress (so the spirit of NaNo, if not the letter). I should do it...I need to get back in the habit of writing every day since I can't seem to talk myself out of wanting to actually be published someday.
  • I have finished painting the living room and dining room at my mother-in-law's house. (We finished the dining room yesterday.) I meant to take before and after photos. This did not happen. So...you'll just have to take my word for the fact that it is a vast, vast improvement. Now we just need to talk the FIL into new furniture...and something actually new, not just new to them but hey, free on Craigslist.
  • We converted the crib to a toddler bed on Friday before nap time. In all, it's actually going pretty well, transition-wise. We did move the rail so the opening is at his feet instead of at his head after the first two sleeps (one nap, one night) were interrupted constantly with insecurity. Thinking about how he slept in the crib (all mushed up against the rails) we figured having the rails up by his head would help him. So far, so good.
  • We also flipped his carseat forward facing. I had been wanting to keep him til at least 2 (honestly my initial thought was to rear face until he was at the weight limit for the seat rear facing, but at the rate he gains weight, he'll be graduating from college by then) but it's getting harder to buckle him in rear facing because he's all leg. He didn't see uncomfortable, but I think he'll be happier looking ahead.
  • Today we went and wandered about the national park near our house. He had a blast throwing rocks in the river (his concession to our not letting him throw himself in to splash about) and tromping about drawing in the dirt with a stick he picked up.
Several blog tours are on the horizon - fiction mostly - it's been nice to have a new influx of reading material.
