Between the two entrances to our neighborhood is a sign post reminding you to drive carefully in memory of a 22 year old who was ejected from a car going, they figure, around 75 (on our then 40-mph road) when it hit a utility pole. Two others were killed in that accident as well (both teenagers).
The other day, driving down the road on my way home, I stopped at the light behind a van with a bumper sticker "Gone but not forgotten", followed by the boy's name and dates.
When the light turned green, they took off. By the time they passed the memorial sign, they had probably hit about 65 (on our now 45-mph road).
I guess sometimes tragedy doesn't teach as well as it ought.
