Leaving on a Jet Plane

I have no idea who sang that song - in fact, I don't even really like that song, but it's stuck in my head from college (it comes and goes, it hasn't been constantly stuck for the last many moons) and resurfaces whenever I'm about to go on a trip. All because a friend spent like three hours telling this story about how he was leaving to go to college and he played and sang that song to his girlfriend on the beach by a campfire before leaving...and then broke up with her because long-distance relationships don't work (his words).

Anyway, appropos of nothing other than the fact that this afternoon I am jetting down to warmer climes (projected high of 80 for the duration of my stay) to begin embarking on my PhD program (which then becomes an online endeavor). I doubt very much that this will impact my blogging...nothing else to do at night in my hotel room, after all, but if it does, well, I'll be back to regularly scheduled randomness on Monday.

And in keeping with appropos of nothing...Tim, being the Very Best Husband in the Universe (that's his official title, btw), has put Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on my iPod for viewing during airplane rides and long waits at the airport on Sunday afternoon. Yay! Had we time enough, I would've requested more movies to be added for a little variety, but alas, it was first a matter of figuring out how to do it while also still trying to keep up with his homework. So I will just watch Charlie over and over. Which is all good with me. (And I am SO glad that there is not that retarded "Cheer Up, Charlie" song in this version. I love Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory too, but that song just drives me insane.)

With that...to work I go.
