On being a Boy Scout

Ok, I am neither a boy, nor a Boy Scout. (Nor am I scouting for boys.) However, today I am embracing their motto: Be Prepared.

In preparation for the day's scintillating round of training I have:

  • 1 large mug of coffee
  • Two colors of pens for more exciting doodling
  • My spiral notebook (for bound doodling)
  • A USB mouse to make playing solitaire more enjoyable
  • My sweater
  • Long sleeves
  • Pants (vs. the skirt I wore yesterday and after about an hour my legs and feet were numb)

Hopefully that'll at least keep me slightly more warm and/or occupied. In other news, the past several days here in DC have reminded me of a cartoon I saw many years ago that depicted the devil standing in front of a map of the US that had "Pleasant" written across it.

It was already 80 when I woke up at 6 this morning. That's just never a good sign.

And not to engender the dry heat vs. wet heat debate, but seriously, there is so much water in the air here that it should be raining. In fact, we've had major amounts of rain on days when there was less water in the air. It's just a bad feeling when you walk outside and you can't decide if you just immediately started sweating or if it's simply the air condensing on your skin. Give me the sunbaked "I can feel the moisture leaving my body" heat of the desert any ol day. Summer in a swamp stinks.

I have been mumbling this phrase for the past few days...

I will not whine when it's cold this winter, I will not whine when it's cold this winter!!!
