Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

Let me apologize for being AWOL yesterday - I was in a 4 hour meeting, that somehow morphed into 8. By the end I was trying to rewrite the intro to Gilligan's Island to reprepresnt my day. For all of that, however, I now have four printed out certificates that today I will exchange, with another form, for an ID. In some ways I feel like I'm playing a video game - "I'll trade you my Sword of Dastardliness with the Ruby of Lightning enhancement and 20 gold coins for your Proof of Knowledge spell."

Anyway, I had every intention of posting - and then I got back to my office and found my cell and voice mail and IM cluttered with messages about how my sister was in a really bad car accident and where was I??? (Never mind that I had told them about the meeting.) She's ok - maybe some whiplash and plenty of aching today I'm guessing. Her car is most likely totaled. And at a minimum she should be getting a total replacement not fair market value because the guy who rearended her - the guy in the dumptruck that was probably exceeding the speed limit and not paying attention to the fact that the light was red - said his brakes failed. I'm not thinking that the company who owns said dumptruck is going to fuss over the fact that they ought to be maintaining their equipment better. I'm just glad she's ok.

  2. Ooh! I pray your sister is okay because my husband was also rear-ended by a dumptruck and suffered what we thought was "only whiplash" only to be fraught with severe back/neck/leg/arm pains for nearly 5 years before finally getting the right treatment, 20+ doctors later. And the trash company did argue that they were not liable (even though their driver was intoxicated and driving on a suspended license). Even "soft tissue" injuries can be severe. I hope she seeks treatment for herself and not just her car.
