I know several of you who read here have switched off Blogger to somewhere else. How smooth was your transition? Did you lose readers? Did you ever get them back?
I'm contemplating taking the leap - have been for a while but was operating under the "If it ain't broke..." mentality. Unfortunately, it seems like blogger is slowly breaking as Google pushes its quest for Internet domination down the throats of people who choose to blog elsewhere.
So...I've owned sleepybeth.com for a while (would really love andtheniwokeup.com but it's taken by someone who never seems to have anything functional there, but they renew every year, so...sleepybeth it is) and am contemplating moving into my own little domain, if you will. For those of you who are doing your own hosting - what platform are you using and do you like it?
And for everyone else...if I move, will you still come by?

I use WordPress and love it. I also use Bluehost for my webhosting and love it. I recommend both. WordPress is SUPER EASY to use and has a relatively easy install (it boasts a five-minute installation if you follow the directions and make sure all files don't have an extra hard return at the end). And BlueHost is an awesome hosting service that is dirt cheap ($7/month) and has a LOT of bang for the buck by way of GB, bandwidth, email addresses and MySql databases.

I'll come visit, even if you move. Just say where. ...not that I light the place up with comments or anything, but still...
ReplyDeleteJaynee, thanks! I'll have to consider BlueHost in my comparisons. I've heard good things about wordpress and am leaning that way, though I want to at least look at Moveable Type and do a comparison to see what's what.
ReplyDeleteBrian - cool. :) Flooding the comments is absolutely optional - I just like seeing stats that say that someone is out there reading my drivel. ;) Watch this space for new address info.
I recommend WordPress, too. Super easy.
ReplyDeleteThe key to having your readers travel with you is to have the very top post include the new link and to give them a couple of weeks of reminders of the new domain so that they can change their bookmarks. They'll find you.
I've tried just about all the blogging platforms and keep coming back to WordPress. It's the easiest to set up, easiest to extend, and most hosting providers have automatic setup for it. Of course you can try a test blog at wordpress.com or blogsome.com if you want to try before you 'buy'.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried Movable Type. Regardless of which you choose, I'll still keep coming back! :)
I'd follow you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely come with you :)!
