A few fashion questions for those of you whose sole understanding of the fashion industry doesn't come from watching Project Runway:
- Why are spring clothes already being put out and fall/winter on discount? I mean, I don't mind the discount now, but what happens if I need to buy clothes in, say, January? Am I stuck buying short sleeves and lightweight fabrics at that point, even though it'll be cold for at least another 3 months (which translates to at least one more buying trip for a kiddo)? Or are they expecting me to just guess and go ahead and buy the two sizes that he'll probably need before spring now?
- Why do they change the cut/fit of women's jeans every two seconds? I bought a pair of jeans I like in May. May, people. I went back today to get another pair and they're labeled the same but cut completely differently. I even tried a few pairs just to make sure it wasn't a mislabel on that first pair. Nope. They've changed it. Why????
- A corollary to #2 -- why do they assume that short people who are chubby are a smaller chubby size than average or tall people who wear that same size? If I want jeans that are the right length, I generally need "petite" (you know, fashion's word for shrimpy), but why is a petite size Gargantuan A smaller than an average size Gargantuan A? Shouldn't Gargantuan A be the same size no matter how long the legs are?
Also? There was a really creepy middle of the hall wonder lotion salseman who grabbed my hand and started stroking it as I was trying to vigorously shake him off and keep walking. Ick.
I agree with you on all points. Try buying a lawn mower in late summer when the grass is still growing, or a snow shovel in February when snow is on the ground but the stores are already selling lawn mowers instead. And jeans are always a special source of angst. I have two pairs of identical jeans, one in "average" and one in "tall"...the tall ones fit much better but are too long. Hrmph. I hate shopping too.
ReplyDeleteI just cant understand why clothing designers think that women's bodies have LESS sizing differences than men. Men's clothes almost universally is either measured, or is custom hemmed.
ReplyDeleteIn an alternate life, I will start a clothing line for women that follows the men's model: instead of using sizes, I'll use measurements. And all pants will have to be custom hemmed.
