October? Really?

Apparently today is October 2nd. Who knew? (Ok, all you people who actually have jobs probably figured it out. And maybe those of you without a job who pay attention to things like this. But really. October?)

I would like to file this under "Help. My life is slipping away from me!"

We went to Costco this morning for milk and hamburger and yogurt. That is all we needed. I'm still not sure where the other $150 got spent. (Well, that's not precisely true. My sister called and had just a few things. And Tim wanted candy for the office. And and and...after a bit it all adds up. But honestly, we just needed milk, hamburger, and yogurt.)

This afternoon we're going to go get flu shots. The ped told me last week that they were only doing flu shots for "at risk" kids. So I called this afternoon to see if there was anywhere we could go to get him a shot because with mom starting chemo next week (did I mention that? She's starting chemo next week. On the good side, the type of cancer she has is historically really responsive to chemo. On the not-so-good side, they discovered that some of the stuff they biopsied when they did the surgery that he didn't think was cancer is, in fact, cancer. So...she's been bumped up a stage from where they thought she was and not all the cancer actually got taken out during surgery like we initially thought.) we should all have flu shots so as to cut down on one possibility of infection that mom just doesn't need. And they said, come on in. So in we will come.

Not that I really want to get the flu, mind you, but I don't think I'd be this preemptive about the whole thing without the chemo.

I'm on the fence about the whole swine flu thing. Part of me (a big part, mind you) is hesitant to give my kiddo a vaccine that hasn't been tested that they "think" "should" work just like a flu shot. But they don't know. Because they haven't tested it. So....we'll see. Maybe I'll ask what they're recommending when we get the flu shot this afternoon.

Maybe I should've titled this "September Flu By", given the nature of my ramblings. (Insert your own rimshot here.)

Also - I would like to make the following PSA:
If you are in the left of two right turn lanes at a stoplight and there is a sign that states in huge, bold, black letters "NO TURN ON RED FROM THIS LANE" directly in front of the lane you are in, then laying on your horn is not going to make the person in front of you make an illegal right on red, even if you think it's clear. On the other hand, she and her son will have a jolly old time going "Beeeeeeep!" along with you.

Maybe they need a sign that uses pictures for that rather than words...but what would that look like?

Happy Friday.
