Ouch

Yesterday at the bright crack of 5:45 a.m. I checked myself in at the hospital (well, hubby drove me over) for a hysterectomy.

With mom's passing from ovarian cancer and my sister in the throes of being diagnosed with some sort of gyn cancer, it seemed like the prudent choice.

From what I was told, the surgery went swimmingly. Took just about two hours. And I spent the rest of yesterday fading in and out of consciousness.

The abdominal pain hasn't been too awful - it's mostly when I move from standing to sitting or sitting to lying down or vice versa. Walking around isn't bad. Sitting itself isn't bad. Just the transitions.

What really hurts are the joints in my hands.

They had me hooked up to IV fluids all of yesterday and today until I finally got to go home at lunch time. My fingers are hugely swollen and painful.

I'm hoping that will clear up as my body clears the extra hydration. Because ouch.

All in all, I feel pretty good. I guess we'll see how that continues. I'm just glad to have it in the rearview mirror.
