Working from Home in the Ice

Last night we didn't get the snow of Apocalyptic proportions that was forcast, but we did definitely get a nice compact mixture of freezing rain (that went ahead and froze once it hit the ground), sleet, snow, and then another top coating layer of freezing rain, just to finish off the look. Everything appears to be coated in ice. And while this is quite pretty, I didn't fancy driving in it (or more to the point, on it.)

After I skated out on our deck this morning to try and refill the bird feeder and:
1) did not break through the ice crust. Me. Who is neither skinny nor light. And,
2) couldn't open the feeder because it was iced closed

my resolve to stay and work from home was resolidified. (No fear for the birds, I put several handsful of seed out in piles on the bannister and the iced over flower containers, so they're happy.)

Thankfully, in anticipation of this as a potential problem, I had forwarded home some things to work on. So I have spent the better part of my morning working (well, and having a phone interview for another job) on work stuff. And I have to say, I could totally work at home and be a happy camper. I'm getting tons done and actually enjoying myself. I think it's in large part due to the fact that there is not a flourescent bulb to be found in my office area. Nary a one. So my soul is happily still ensconced in my body rather than fighting being sucked out through my ears. I really need to invest in a desk lamp for the office.

And what makes it even better? Tim's working from home too. Valentine's day at home with your honey is how it should always be.

Now, back to work I go. Happy Valentine's Day for those who celebrate it.

  1. You sound much better at staying focussed when working at home. I find myself too easily distracted, especially if my honey is also working at home. I'm glad you have the option. I feel bad for people who have to do it, no matter what (like our friendly rural mail carriers ;-).
