Because we have Dish Network for our television service, we also have Sirius Satellite radio available to pipe throughout the house. Generally speaking, when I'm at home I would be perfectly content with silence. I don't feel the need to have the TV on for company or music on just for the sake of having it on (wanting it on because I feel like listening to it does happen, but it's not a given.) Since I know that living in silence is not the best thing, developmentally speaking, for the little one, I have been trying to remember to turn the satellite radio on for at least a little while during the day, so that between it and me narrating every little thing I'm doing (hey, it's good for language skills...besides, I talk to myself already, so it's not like I was going to stop doing that anytime soon) he's probably getting enough in terms of auditory input.
Anyway, one of the stations I frequent is Sirius Pops. I prefer the Symphonies channel, honestly, but most of the time Tim leaves it on Pops and I'm frankly too lazy to look up what number it is and change the station. One of the things the Pops channel does a lot of is play "accessible" classical music - so you get the "Beef: It's What's for Dinner" song a lot and then also a lot of sountrak-y type things, like the Hobbit theme from Lord of the Rings and so forth. While I would never personally call that classical, I can't think of a better designation so I go with it. But I may have to draw a line and just go look up that other channel because no matter how hard I stretch, the opening credits music for StarTrek does not need to be the soundtrack of my day.

"Beef" song = "Hoedown", by Aaron Copland.
