It's just one of those days when I'm pretty sure I'm not actually cut out to be a human being. I don't understand why my students don't get it when it's spelled out in black and white in the text, I've spelled it out in different terms at least six times and I even gave them a picture. Short of doing it myself and putting their name on it, I don't know what to do. Except that my department chair has sent me a list of "at risk of failing" students and I'm supposed to ensure that they don't fail. Well...I've already done all I can think of doing for them. I guess at this point I'll just give them points they haven't earned...if I can figure out a way to do that and still be able to look in the mirror.
And there's more - but really...who actually cares?

I do. :-)
ReplyDeleteMe too.
ReplyDeleteYep, me, too.
ReplyDeleteBut I know where you're coming from. The problem is that these students are graduates of schools where they are not taught to think for themselves. They are taught to wait for others to do things for them. And they'll never learn any differently. It's a major problem in education and one where I plan to work with my own children so it will not happen to them. When kids grow up being given the answers instead of taught to find them, they become adults like this.
It's frightening for our society.
Michelle - It's terrifying - and I agree with your analysis completely - I hope to do better by my kids as well. I just wish there were more people willing to stop and realize what the future consequences could be.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why students have this I don't care attitude and it seems if you don't treat them like babies and "do it for them" then the teachers are looked upon badly. I agree with one of the comments above...I too am scared for our socitety!
ReplyDeletePS...thanks for all the prayers! Just taking it day by day!
