TV Musings

Tim has been out of town this week, so that's given me way too much time to watch TV (does it help that I read books while watching TV?) Anyway, following are a few thoughts that are possibly spoilerish.

On a lark, I decided to watch The Mentalist. I had dismissed it out of hand, previously, because in all honesty, reading the blurb when I heard about it made it sound like an incredible rip-off of Psych (a show that I adore and that is so unique that any rip off is going to be a serious loser just on principle). Anyway...I'm pleased to say that other than having an observant person working with the police, it's pretty much nothing like Psych. (Which is to say that, essentially, they stole the basic premise and then went in a totally different direction.) I would call it sort of a Criminal Minds - Psych hybrid. With less gore than Criminal Minds and less humor than Psych. It's definitely a drama, not a comedy, but it has some promise. I'll keep watching it for a little while at least.

NCIS season opener (mild spoilers ensue) - I had bet my sister that the team would be back together within 3 episodes. I did not lose this bet. From the "scenes from next week", Tony is apparently not yet back, but you know he'll be back. And the whole spy/mole plotline looks to be something they're going to continue though the season. If all goes well, it'll be intriguing. I just hope the don't mess it up...cause it could end up being really hoky.

ANTM (spoilery) - I am so glad that the he/she went home. If you want to make a political statement, at least pick somone post-surgery, Tyra. A person who can't wear a girl's bathing suit is not going to win and it seems rather unfair to them to indicate otherwise. I'm also glad that Hannah went home...though I have to wonder exactly how she made the cut and lasted this long in the first place. Beyond that...I'm still waiting for someone to knock my socks off.

Project Runway (spoilery) - As much as I was annoyed by Suede's use of the third person to talk about Suede...I think Kinley should've gone home before him. Or Leanne. Both of their outfits were way worse than Suede's. Those two are one-note designers, period. Suede at least had a little range.

Beyond that, I'm seriously looking forward to TAR 13 starting Sunday night. Yay!
