I blog more regularly and am involved in the administration of a group blog of other writers of my ilk. It's mostly fun, if a little too peopley sometimes (because let's be real, you get 25 people involved in something and you're going to routinely have 699 opinions.)
Anyway, we just finished a big giveaway and it fell to me this year to mail out the packages of paperbacks that people had sent to my house. For the past six weeks or so, I've had an enormous stack of books and swag hanging out on my dining room credenza.
Last night, after my sister and I went to dinner at Outback (note to self: Outback still sucks. I don't know why I keep thinking it'll be better next time. It never is. I need to stop going there and giving them ridiculous amounts of money. Because it feels like they've also gotten way more expensive, too.) we swung by the PO to grab some flat rate boxes.
I was in the process of eyeing my calendar and trying to figure out when I could haul them all in and get them shipped this afternoon when I said to myself, "Self, maybe you can print the postage at home."
I've tried it in the past and it never went well, but what the hey, let's give it a look.
Lo and behold, they've made the process less horrific and I was, in fact, able to print out the labels AND schedule pickup at my normal mail pickup time for no extra fee.
So that is much better than hauling them about, I just have to drop them on the porch in the a.m. and call it a day.
All in all, it was a lovely win for the day when the rest of my brain is churning about with the usual ugliness and whatever it is of life at the mo.
