Is there a way out of this that doesn't involve rioting?

 Y'all.

I'm seriously worried about the US. With the election creeping up on us, it seems like we've firmly established ourselves right in the middle of the Kobayashi Maru and there's no way out.

If Biden/Harris win, it seems like:

  • The right is going to riot
  • Trump may not actually transfer power
  • Biden will "mysteriously" be rendered unfit and leave us with Harris/Pelosi
  • At which point everyone should just present themselves for their barcode and/or internment
If Trump/Pence win, it seems like:

  • The left is going to burn it all down
  • It will basically become the Thunderdome
  • There will be no enforceable rule of law
So...are we legitimately looking at another Civil War? Has the United States gotten too big to govern as a single nation? (or, more to my way of thinking, since the Federal government has gotten so big and is trying to run everything instead of the states being independent as they were originally designed to be, have we simply proven that as an untenable method of governing?)

If there were to be civil war, how many new nations would arise from the ashes? I'm thinking probably four. Roughly regionally set up.

It's an interesting exercise to divvy up the states and consider how they would be fiscally viable as a new nation when I'm staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night unable to sleep because of crippling anxiety.

I know as a believer I'm not supposed to be terrified of the future, but right now that's stinking hard. And I'm failing at it. Badly.
