So the next big thing is driving my sister to California.
I'm still not really onboard with this move to CA and live with the cousin thing, but it's not really my decision, so whatever.
I am grateful that I get to drive her out (there was talk at one point of said cousin flying out to drive her and...it just feels as if they're already stealing her final days on the earth, maybe I could get the doldrums of a four-day car trip as a last hurrah?)
I like road trips. Always have. So in some ways, I'm looking forward to this.
In other ways, not so much.
For one, she's in a hurry it seems, so we're doing it in 4 days of 10-11 hours each. Not horrible, but certainly not pause and see things that look interesting. Or even take a snapshot of places where I don't think I've ever been before.
For example, Salt Lake City. I can't consciously tell you about having been to Utah in ever - other than an airport layover - and I think it would be interesting to spend an hour or two having a gander. Same for Nebraska, etc.
But I'll at least get to see whatever's along the highway, so we'll say it's good enough.
Best flight home is a red eye, so won't that be fun?
And really, even if she wasn't in a hurry, hubby can't work from home for forever right now as the moving dates coincide with a biggish thing at his work. So while I'd love to, I can't completely lay the hurry up and drive blame all on sister.
Maybe in my head I'm still going to, but that's the prerogative of the younger sibling.
Anyway, as I was plotting the course and trying to figure out where to break the trip each night, I grumbled to myself that I wished the AAA triptik was still a thing. I have fond memories of those from childhood road trips. So, for nostalgia sake, I googled.
AAA has put their triptik maker tool online free for anyone to use.
It was a happy day, indeed.
So now, in addition to routes and maps, I have secured hotels along the route.
And I have plans to play around with said tool to see if there's a way to construct a road trip that hubby would actually be willing to embark upon. Because he despises road trips to almost a perfect reciprocal of how much I enjoy them.
That and his allergy to cats are really his two major flaws.
In the overall scheme, that's no so much.
