'Hard-Hearted Harbinger of Haggus'

I browse blogs in my spare time. I don't do a ton of it, but I enjoy finding blogs I like and then browsing the blogs they like - it's kind of like being introduced to a friend of a friend and realizing that you just found a new friend. Lately, however, I've wondered how some very down-to-earth, 'good read' blogs are friends with some of the other blogs they link to. You know the ones - the pretentious, snoot in the air, life is only worth living if your language is flowery and you pass on the wisdom of the ages with every post blogs.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for the wisdom of the ages. But isn't is possible to deliver it in a conversational tone that doesn't slip into 'New England PhD guest lecturer' mode? I, for one at least, would much prefer simply being told that, "In my opinion, the meaning of life is x." instead of, "As I soared through the inner reaches of eternity, letting my mind, like a gentle sponge, absorb the various textures and tastes of knowledge..."

Poetry has its place. Certainly. In fact, I love poetry. I write poetry. I just try to keep it out of my prose.
