Jiggity Jig

It was so amazingly wonderful to be back in my own bed, with my own Tim, and my own puppies, and my own pillow last night. Of course, now I'm back at work - and amazingly all the delightful political problems that had started just before I left have not resolved themselves, so I have a feeling it's going to be a cranky day. I'm tired - scratch that, exhausted - and I just don't have it in me to deal with idiotic in-fighting today. (It's a stretch on a good day.) So I will just shut my door and try to work in peace.

However, I will first issue this Public Service Announcement: Do NOT be lulled into flying Spirit Air. They tempt you with their low fares...but yeesh. I have never been more uncomfortable than on their airline. I realized on our overly full flight home last night that the reason they named themselves "Spirit" is because you must be ethereal to fit in their airline seats. And when the flight is full and the not-thin me is squished into a row with two men who were 6' or more and built accordingly (not little stringbean boys), well let's just say it was unpleasant for all of us. I would like to have seen them put the 3 flight attendants into a row and compare how comfortable they were - cause I imagine they'd've been on eachother's laps as well.

It boggles my mind how Independence Air, with its awesome service, great planes, and concern for comfort went belly up but Spirit manages to stay in business. I believe the word I'm looking for is criminally unjust.

What I also don't get is how the airline industry is not cluing into the fact that the US suffers from an obesity problem. It's all over the news. It's clear just by looking at a random sampling of people who walk by your window on a given day. Yet they still insist on making their seats wide enough for the (now) average seven year old. I would venture to say that even someone who is supermodel thin would be happy to have a larger seat. It's not like you're uncomfortable when you have too much room. So they want us to fly more so that the industry can survive, but they then insist on not recognizing and changing with the times and doing something to make the comfort of their average passenger their paramount concern. Sigh.

Oh. One more thing. Does anyone actually pay $5 for a mini-can of Pringles? Seriously?

  2. Anon - you're absolutely right, I should be very thankful for that (and boy was I yesterday). Usually I'm one of those weird people who misses cubes - but some days, offices are good. Too bad there's not a way to magically transition from one to another based on social needs! :)

The airlines really are clueless when it comes to passenger comfort. Flying overseas is excruciating!

But at least you made it back safe and sound. Hope the job situation improves soon!
