Movie Review: The Departed

This weekend we had the occasion to watch The Departed. I had gone back and forth about seeing this, having first heard great things, then heard horrid things, then some more great things and, well, you get the idea. I will say that looking past the extremely foul language (it's not for the faint of heart - the F word is well and truly loved by every character in this script) and the violence (it's a mob movie at heart, so there is plenty of violence to be had) I actually enjoyed the movie. The story is fascinating and appropriately twisty that some things you saw coming and others (at least for me) came kind of *whamo* out of the blue and left you saying, "Huh. Didn't see that coming at all."

And the best thing of it all? I dislike Leonardo DiCaprio with a vengance. He rocked in this movie. Absolutely the best thing I've ever seen him do and if he could act like this all the time, I would totally be a fan. (The only other thing I've liked him in, and nowhere to the extent of this, was Catch Me If You Can. So now I'm thinking I may give Blood Diamonds a shot and hope that perhaps he's grown up and learned how to, well, act.)

If you're at all interested in seeing The Departed, I'd recommend you go ahead and do so - but do keep in mind that it's very inappropriate for little ears and eyes.

This one gets four and half stars out of five.
