After filling out part of the onboarding paperwork for my new job (What? I didn't tell you? Oh. Well, hey! I have a new job. I start the 9th. Cause I really want some vacation time.) (And yes, I'm aware that "onboarding" probably isn't a word. And if it is a word, it's really silly one. But it's the one they use, so I'm trying to adapt myself to their lingo.) I handed Tim copies of the paperwork and asked if he wanted to make a file for my new job. Because Tim is the file king.
Tim just laughed.
I then remarked that hey, I hadn't left the old job, even though I was nigh unto despising it, and that I thought that showed an amazing amount of moral fortitude. In fact, I had made it just over two years and that had to be some kind of personal record.
After Tim finished laughing he took the paperwork to make a file. Glancing in the file cabinet he remarked to me, "Hey. There's a file in here labled 'Beths Old Jobs'"
Because, you know, there are just too many for each one to have their own file.

See, this is why you need to run your own business... then you can change what you DO all the time but still "work" at the same company.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jim. (I'm going to be optimistic and think the congrats are for the new job and not for a severe case of Job ADD.)
ReplyDeleteLynellen - true...but then I can't complain about my boss. :)
