Columbus Day

While I'm grateful for a holiday for Tim (though he has work he'll need to do, so it's not a true holiday...still, at least he'll get to be at home) I've always wondered why we bother celebrating Columbus. At least when I was taught history, it was fairly thoroughly drilled into my brain that despite sailing the ocean blue in 1492, it was in fact not Columbus who discovered America, but actually Amerigo Vespucci. Or the Vikings.

Still, in honor of Columbus, the Sunday crossword puzzle this week had the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria listed 25 times as parts of the various clues (you basically do the crossword and then it becomes a word search.) So there's that.

My day doesn't look drastically different. I need to find time to vacuum upstairs, though I usually vacuum when the baby is sleeping and I'm hesitant to vacuum his room while he's doing so. Call me silly if you must. I also should sweep and mop - though I've yet to replace the backbreaking mop, so really I'm not in a huge rush to do that. And, after all, it's a holiday...right?

I hope you all do something appropriately Columbusian. Whatever that might entail. (Me? I'm going to go pick up the 1,492 toys that are spread out all over the living room floor.)
