My birthday was Monday. There wasn't a lot of fanfare because Monday and we were just coming off of youngest being baptized on Sunday and really, I was fine with that. Monday was a lot of normal -- school, laundry, toilets to clean, and our church home group. But hubby said, "Let's go to the Melting Pot this week to celebrate."
This is never a hard sell for me.
So tonight, off we went.
Of course, the closest MP options are either Fredericksburg or Arlington. Being idiots, we chose F'burg since that's our usual choice. (Of course, our usual time to go is not a weeknight at dinner time.)
We were a few minutes late for our reservation owing to Wednesday night stop and go traffic. (Yaaay.) But it all worked out. Or so I thought.
Eldest boy sat down at the table and then asked to use the restroom. Ok. No big. It's a long(ish) trip.
But when he came back, he kind of curled in on himself and didn't eat. Anything. Because his stomach hurt.
We ascertained that no, he didn't have a fever. He'd been feeling fine (and looking forward to dinner) all day. All I could think was he got carsick on the way down.
So he mostly sipped ginger ale and moaned throughout the meal.
Younger boy, about half-way through, on seeing the extra care and attention elder was getting decided HIS stomach hurt. So he moaned loudly. With great drama.
So hubby and I finished our meal quickly, shushing the dramatic moans as best as possible to try and allow the other patrons to enjoy their very expensive cheese and chocolate with a modicum of peace.
In all, I think I might have been better off with the mundane lack of celebration.
Ah well. I got some chocolate covered strawberries out of it. And now, at home, both boys are fine. Of course.

Happy Birthday! 29, am I right?
ReplyDeleteMine was about a month back. Completely and utterly mundane. It's the bestest present anyone can give me these days.
29 is close enough. I mean really, who's counting?
DeleteMundane is definitely a win these days. Happy belated to you!
