At the end of June, maybe early July, hubby texted from work, "I might have to go to France for a meeting."
I texted back, "You misspelled we."
This kicked off a flurry of activity. Because hubby was all about a family vacation to Europe wherein we were only responsible for three airfares instead of four. (Who wouldn't be?)
Of course, step one? Passports.
Mine, hubby's, and eldest's were all expired. We'd been doing the "We should renew these." dance for a couple of years. Going so far as to print and fill out the forms, even, without making the time to follow through. (Because kids are an extra level of hard -- and I support it -- but both parents have to appear in person with the kid at the post office/passport office or there has to be notarized authorization by the absent parent.) Coordinating that was a nightmare with the way hubby's job used to work.
But now? Facing not only a REASON to do said passport and also him working from home more than in the office, it was considerably easier.
Youngest had never even had a passport.
Anyway, we scurried around and got everything shipped off. Expedited, because all the online information was saying 9 weeks for expedited, up to 15 for non. And the apparent France trip would have been maybe 11 weeks away from when we started (end of September/early October.)
Of course, after all the flurry and scurry, the meeting shifted. Now, maybe the UK, not France. And in mid-November. Or, more accurately, "Maybe sometime in November." Because this is how things roll.
At this point, everything is up in the air. There's talk of Hawaii instead (don't ask me, I have no idea, but I do realize it's on the opposite side of the world.) Or the spring. Maybe still France.
Nobody knows.
What I do know is that my passport arrived yesterday. Just five short weeks after sending it off. I double-checked the rest of the applications online and they say "in process." But I don't think they update that more until it's finished. So who knows. Maybe they'll come this week or next. Or in September.
At this point, there's no urgency.
Unfortunately.
