It seemed like a good idea at the time

On Wednesday, eldest and the hubs left for a five day (four night) camping trip. Right before this massive heatwave hit.

The planning for said trip (all part of the boys' Trail Life troop) started in June. Back before there was any indication that the surface of the sun was going to be making an appearance right here on the east coast.

Eldest was excited, if a tiny bit nervous. Hubby thought it sounded like a fun time.

The plan was to drive to the Shenandoah and make camp. They spent the first night there (at a campground). Then the next day they did a long hike (most of the day to go up and back) with their backpacks. Spend the night again at base camp. On Friday, they broke camp, loaded up their backpacks, and hiked with all their gear to their new in-the-wild camping spot. They spent the night there and today should be hiking back down to the campground where they will spend tonight before heading home.

Honestly, if it was October, it might be pleasant. But for me, I think I'd rather die than be on this trip.

The very few texts I've gotten (there's little to no cell signal) have indicated that they're both having fun. So that's a bonus and I'm glad to hear it.

But I'm still concerned about just how much dehydration we're going to be fighting when they do get home tomorrow.
