Yesterday afternoon I was walking my sister to the door (she came over for a bit to hang out) and there I saw a sight that will keep me from deadheading my roses, pruning anything else out there in the front gardens and, in fact, willingly opening the door until such time as it is taken care of.
There is a snake living under our front steps.
I saw it slither back under them with my own eyes.
My sister thinks it's "just" a garden snake. But the garden part is not, in my mind, nearly as important as the last bit.
You may recall that I have sighted this beastie before, though Tim did not believe me then. (And he's not really acting like he believes me now, since his unconcerned response was, "Well, it eats bugs."
Yes. It eats bugs. And frogs. And bunnies. AND PEOPLE.
There is no possible way that I am going to be able to think about this rationally (yes, yes, I have an irrational fear of snakes of all varieties, I get that.) There is really only one choice: It is, most decidedly, time to move.

Pardon me, but I did NOT hang out with you. We wolfed down lunch and then I slaved on my phd dissertation until tim came home.
ReplyDeleteOh, and you'll be thrilled to know there is an entire book called "The Snakes of Virginia". I will try to figure out what kind of snake that sucker was.
ReplyDeletewell, once you've ID'd it, if it's harmless it's best to let it alone. The harmless ones avoid people as much as possible and they eat all the things that the bad ones do, and sometimes they eat the bad ones, also. So just let it be if it's not evil.
ReplyDelete(Why yes, this IS my snake phobia rationalization for letting a 5 foor black racer live in our backyard for 3 years, why do you ask?)
Yes...move to NZ...No snakes! (No I haven't any agenda here hehe)
ReplyDeleteYeah - I am sure its just a "Garter Snake" (not a "garden" snake).
ReplyDeleteJust let me know when ready and Tim and i can pull it out and ummmm .... "take care of it" for you.
=)
